Heath Fleener: Warrior, Healer, and Inspiration of Hope
For four decades, Heath waged a silent war against the menacing foes of PTSD, depression, and relentless stress. Like many who have walked the path of service, his journey through darkness was fraught with loss and despair, nearly claiming his life.
Radical Honesty
In a moment of radical honesty, Heath shares, "All the drugs that were supposed to help me, made things worse. I was ready to kill myself, the gun malfunctioned, and it sparked a transformation." The malfunction was a twist of fate and ignited a journey of radical healing.
Approaching healing with an open mind, Heath commented, “I was willing to try unconventional things. You never know what’s going to work.” Heath's quest for healing took him through a maze of therapies and techniques, from yoga to crystals to Rapid Resolution Therapy.
Traditional therapy, which the VA could only schedule once every six weeks was not going to cut it. And then he met with a Rapid Resolution Therapist, "I was amazed by its effectiveness," Heath recounts. And this is one of the modalities he wants to share with others.
From Pain to Purpose
Inspired by his own transformation, Heath knew he couldn't keep this newfound hope to himself. That is when the idea for Retreat for Heroes was born—a sanctuary for veterans, active military, police, and first responders grappling with the hidden wounds of trauma. Grounded in a holistic approach, Retreat for Heroes offers therapeutic interventions infused with the power of nature and camaraderie. "If it saved me, it could save others," Heath declared with unwavering conviction.
Mission
The mission of Retreat for Heroes is nothing short of revolutionary—to provide healing and hope to those who have sacrificed so much, at no cost. That’s right, no cost for those suffering and their families to attend a retreat and start the recovery process.
Preserving mental health, improving family dynamics, and preventing suicide are the cornerstones of this awesome endeavor. Through outdoor sports, activities, and a supportive environment, Heath and his team offer a lifeline to those in need.
Dream Team
With a dedicated board and passionate volunteers by his side, Retreat for Heroes has blossomed into a haven of healing and hope. "I could not have done this without my diverse board and volunteers," Heath gushes as he describes his board. "Their dedication and support are the backbone of Retreat for Heroes."
